CAIRO – 25 June 2017: The director of Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital and the head of the emergency department in the same hospital were dismissed on Sunday over negligence. The dismissal was a result of a surprise visit by the inspection committee, formed by the Minister of Health Ahmed Emad el-Din to check on hospitals on the first day of Eid el-Fitr.
The head of the Intensive Care Units Department at the Ministry, Sherif Wadie, told Egypt Today that the hospital lacked the supplies and medicine necessary for the emergency department. The hospital should have reported that shortage to the ministry as it has large quantities of all medical supplies.
The hospital’s staff reported the shortage several times to management, which made no efforts to contact the ministry. As a result, many patients have had to be transferred to other hospitals, servie has slowed and many surgeries have been postponed since Friday.
The shortage included surgical threads, children’s oxygen masks, and a printer for the heart rate monitoring device in the emergency room.
Wadie affirmed that all supplies and equipment have been delivered to the hospital and that surprise visits to hospitals around the country would continue until the end of Eid.
