CAIRO - 20 June 2020: The Sudanese Foreign Minister Asmaa Mohamed Abdullah said Saturday in a statement that the latest round of negotiations on the Ethiopian dam between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia achieved noticeable progress on the technical level.
Abdullah said that a dispute remains between the three states as a political consensus is not reached yet to continue the negotiations. She added that the file has been referred to the Prime Ministers of the three countries to end this political dispute.
The minister asserted Sudan’s rejection to any unilateral move and any Ethiopian decision to start filling the dam without the approval of the downstream countries of Egypt and Sudan.
Abdullah asserted that her country will exert all the efforts to revive the negotiations as the dialogue is the best option for the three states to realize a balanced and fair agreement.
Abdullah appreciated the roles played by South Africa, United States, and the European Union through all the phases of the negotiations, wishing for more efforts to bridge the gaps between the three countries in order to reach an agreement on GERD.
Abdullah said that Sudan is keen to protect its national interest as per the principals of the international law and cooperation and dialogue methods.
