CAIRO, 17 June 2020: Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi directed expansion and development of Alexandria Port, according to Prime Minster Moustafa Madbouly statements in a Wednesday Cabinet meeting.
Madbouly pointed out that there is a comprehensive plan for development was prepared by the Ministry of Transport, adding that any land will be needed during the expansion process will be used. He described the port as the most important port in the country, which controls nearly 40 percent of Egypt’s goods.
The Cabinet’s weekly meeting was attended by the ministers of justice, education, culture, local development, health, public business sector and transportation as well as Alexandria governor and the heads of the Egyptian Survey Authority, Alexandria port, the Authority for Maritime Safety and representatives of other governmental bodies concerned.
During the meeting, held through video-conference, Madbouly asserted that the development and expansion of the harbor comes within the directives of President Abdel Fatah el Sisi.
Madbouly indicated during the meeting that any required legislative or legal measures will be initiated to transfer the lands needed by the Alexandria Port Development Scheme.
The ministers and the governor reviewed the status of lands affiliated to their respective ministries and needed for the harbor’s expansion and discussed procedures of transferring them to the Transportation Ministry to finalize the national project.
