CAIRO – 23 June 2017: Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets American football team has formally nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump as U.S.
ambassador to Britain, the White House said on Friday, according to The Guardian.

The nomination of the American billionaire was expected after trump called Johnson ambassador during remarks at a luncheon last January. Johnson appointment as U.S. ambassador in Britain will require the Senate’s approval in order to be valid. The White House cited Johnson’s asset management firm the Johnson Company and his 16 years as chairman and CEO of Jets.

Johnson is an American businessman and philanthropist who was born on April 12, 1947. He is a member in Council on Foreign Relations. He became involved in charitable organisations in the 1980s. He started the Alliance for Lupus Research foundation after his daughter Jaime was found to have lupus.

Johnson purchased the Jets for $635 million, on January 18, 2000. This deal price was considered the third highest for a professional sport team and the highest for one in New York.
