Cairo sees rise in temperature on Sham el-Nessim

CAIRO – 20 April 2020: Greater Cairo will witness an increase in temperature, recording highs of 29°C and lows of 19°C, on Monday, which marks the old spring festival Sham el-Nessim.

In the morning, Cairo witnesses mist, and Lower Egypt cities sees a moderate weather in the morning, and a very cold weather at night.

Northeastern coasts and Central Sinai witness a moderate weather in the morning, and a cold weather at night with a moderate active wind.


Monday’s temperature degrees come as follows:


Cairo sees highs of 29°C and lows of 16°C

Alexandria sees highs of 24°C and lows of 15°C

Matrouh sees highs of 24°C and lows of 15°C

Sohag sees highs of 32°C and lows of 16°C

Qena sees highs of 32°C and lows of 18°C

Aswan sees highs of 34°C and lows of 19°C


Sham el-Nessim festival does not have any religious background. Sham el-Nessim is usually a national holiday, marking the beginning of spring and coming after Easter. People usually head to parks and gather to eat traditional salted and fermented fish meals.

However, this year, all parks, beaches, gardens and tourist villages are closed as per the government's instructions amid fears of coronavirus spread.
