CAIRO – 12 April 2020: In a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Transportation Kamel al-Wazir, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi instructed the continuation of the transportation system development as the sector is pivotal for the upgrade of the infrastructure.

The purpose of the meeting was presenting the progress rate of ongoing transportation projects, particularly roads, public transportation facilities linking the New Administrative Capital with Greater Cairo neighborhoods, and new metro lines.

Egypt is finalizing the third metro line in Greater Cairo, as the number of metro lines connecting Giza, Cairo, and Qalyoubeya together are planned to become six by 2030.

On April 4, President Sisi instructed the postponement of the inauguration of national mega projects that were supposed to take place in 2020 to 2021, including the government’s relocation to the New Administrative Capital and the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

The president met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem al-Gazar to examine the strategy to be adopted soon in construction sites amid COVID-19 spread.
