CAIRO - 21 June 2017: Saudi Arabia has declared Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the kingdom's crown prince while Prince Mohammed bin Nayef has been relieved from his position after a royal decree was issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz early on Wednesday morning, Al-Arabia reported.

The Saudi Press Agency confirmed that 31 out of 34 members of Saudi Arabia's succession committee chose Mohammed bin Salman as the kingdom's crown prince.

The newly announced Crown Prince Mohammed, who also serves as defense minister and oversees a vast economic portfolio, had previously been second in line to the throne.

Bin Salman, 31, was picked by the majority of 31 of 34 of the royal family's key members

Under the same royal decree, King Salman has also appointed Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef as Saudi Arabia's interoir minister while Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Salem was named deputy minister of interior with the rank of minister.
