Sisi marks National Orphan’s Day, calls them Egypt’s ‘hope'

CAIRO – 3 April 2020: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has marked the national Orphan’s Day, which the northeastern African country celebrates on the first Friday of April every year, calling parentless children Egypt’s “hope and future”.

This comes while the country is involved in a fierce battle against the novel coronavirus, as it has so far confirmed 865 cases and 58 deaths.

“Today, we all celebrate with our sons and daughters the Orphans’ Day, which is considered a day for mercy, intimacy and tranquility. The greatest and most generous people are those who have secured the orphan.”

“I invite everyone to share attention and care with our children because they are the hope and the future of Egypt.”

The idea to have an Orphans’ Day began with an initiative from an Egyptian NGO in 2003; the Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers of the Arab league in 2006 recognized it as a day for orphanages in the Arab World.
