Egypt’s human rights delegation takes part in 43rd Session of HRC

CAIRO - 9 March 2020: Egypt’s National Society for Rights and Freedoms, and the Association for the Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) participated in Geneva-held 43rd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) activities, said the Egyptian delegation in a statement on Monday.

The Egyptian human rights mission participated in a session tackled the human rights situations in South Sudan and Iran. The session has been attended by representatives from the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan, and Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran.

Egypt’s participation would last until March 14, said head of the National Society for Rights and Freedoms Walid Farouk in the statement.

At the session, Chief of the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan (UNCHRSS) Yasmin Sooka warned against a fragile peace in the African country, tweeting “UNCHRSS is concerned the international community may be lulled into believing the conflict is fully over, now there is unity government in SS [South Sudan]. Reality more complex - fragile peace at national level morphed into localized ethnic conflicts.”
