CAIRO – 20 June 2017: Starting July electricity prices will increase while adding that necessary measures will be taken to ease the impact on low-income citizens, according to a statement by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker on Monday.

The minister confirmed that “there will be no electricity outage throughout this summer.”
Shaker said that “electricity networks in Egypt are being restored as there are huge investments of LE 37 billion ($2 million) in both transmission and distribution networks. The restoration plan will take between two and three years. “

The minister said that cross-borders electricity linkage between Egypt and Jordan, Libya, and Saudi Arabia is under construction. The capacity of electricity linkage between Egypt and Saudi Arabia is 3000 MWe.

Shaker added that Egypt is expected to start exporting electricity in 2020 or 2021 after connections are finalized. Egypt sometimes exports electricity to Jordan as there are existing 400-450 MWe linkage.
