'Comfortable Life' targets female breadwinners in Upper Egypt

CAIRO - 21 February 2020: The Ministry of Sports and Youth and a group of Youth in Upper Egypt launched an initiative titled Comfortable Life aiming to achieve the UN sustainable goals to eradicate poverty and hunger.

The initiative is part of a program laid by the Central Administration of the Parliament and Civil Education at the ministry. The initiative's programs provide training on hand-made crafts for female breadwinners and people with disabilities to improve the standards of living at the village Kalh al-Kara in Edfu, Aswan.



The first phase of the initiative trained some women on how to start their own businesses and taught them hand-made crafts such as crochet, sewing, making accessories, and recycling waste materials.

The second phase focuses on production as women are required to produce hand-made and recycled products made of reeds, wicker and palm fronds to offer them in the market.




For marketing, the initiative made deals with a number of schools to provide student uniforms.

"The 37 participants, including a man with disability, are aged between 18 and 50," Zeina Mohamed, one of the initiative organizers, told Egypt Today on Thursday, noting that the program aims at spreading awareness of the UN sustainable development goals.
