CAIRO- 7 February 2020: Egypt has won the membership of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council for 2020-2022, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said on Friday.
Egypt won the membership with an overwhelming majority in first round of the election, he added.
On his Twitter account, Hafez said that this came in continuation to Egypt's tireless efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the African continent.
The elections were held on the sidelines of the AU Executive Council meetings in Addis Ababa.
Meetings of the Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council continue today under the chairmanship of Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
