CAIRO - 30 January 2020: Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Niveen el Qebbag inaugurated a restaurant in Nasr City, eastern Cairo, run by hearing impaired staff, said the ministry in a statement on Thursday.

The restaurant is one of the fast food chains and was opened within the framework of the the government's initiative "New Life" for people with special needs. Qebbag said that the ministry signed a protocol with a famous travel company to hire employees with disabilities, noting that the disabled people in Egypt represents 11 percent of the Egyptian population.
She called for learning the basics of sign language to help them to indulge into the society, adding that the ministry established a hotline on 15044 to provide the required assistance for those people.
On December 4, 2019, Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saffan stated that the ministry launched this initiative to benefit the trainees after the announcement of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi the year of 2018 as the year for people with special needs.The initiative was implemented by the Ministry of Manpower in cooperation with the Fund for Training and Rehabilitation.
In the same year and during the inauguration of the Seventh International Conference on Information Technology Convergence and Services for People with Disabilities (ICT4PwDs), Sisi also announced establishing an initiative that aims to enable disabled people to get services and information introduced by online websites of governmental institutions.
Sisi also issued law no. 10 for 2018 on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on February 20, after being approved by the Parliament.
