CAIRO – 15 January 2020: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday hailed the performance of the armed forces personnel during the inauguration of Berenice military base in the Red Sea Governorate, the largest in the Red Sea and MENA regions.
“Today I was honored to (witness) the opening of the Berenice base and I followed up the preparations of the various sections and branches of the Egyptian armed forces. I would like to pay tribute to the outstanding performance of our armed forces and their constant willingness to fulfill their duty to defend this country. Long live Egypt”
The Berenice military base in Egypt’s southeastern governorate Red Sea governorate has an airbase and a naval base, according to local media, and was built over a course of a year on 150,000 feddans (155,676 acres).
It aims for protecting investments and natural resources and for facing security threats in the Red Sea. It also aims to secure the international navigation between the Red Sea and the Suez Canal linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
