Bernice military base is the latest base in a series of Egyptian military bases, which goes the line with a plan to develop and modernize the Egyptian army.

In 2017, Egypt inaugurated its first military base under the name “Mohamed Naguib,” which is known to be the largest in the Middle East in the easternmost city in the Matrouh Governorate; “El-Hamam” city.
CAIRO - 22 July 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, inaugurates on Saturday the largest military base in the Middle East "Mohammed Naguib" base in "El-Hamam" city with the presence of Arab and international high level figures.
The inauguration ceremony is attended by Egyptian officials in addition to Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Areb Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces, Mohammed bin Zayed Sultan Al-Nahyan.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed has tweeted about his participation in the inauguration ceremony, saying that he arrived in Red Sea governorate to share with the “brotherly Egyptian people its national, developmental and civilized achievements.”

During the ceremony, a documentary about the military base was screened, discussing its facilities.
Berenice is an ancient seaport on the west coast of the Red Sea. It was founded in 275 BC by Ptolemy II Philadelphus, who named it after his mother, Berenice I of Egypt.

President Sisi also witnesses the maneuvering activities of Qadir 2020, in which many pieces that joined the Egyptian army during the last period, including fighter aircrafts and helicopters such as the Russian Kamov, the f16 planes and the Rafale aircraft.
There were also the newly joined submarines, among them the German submarine Type 209, and a number of missiles, frigates and Gwind Turbine.
