Oman's Diwan of Royal Court announces death of Sultan Qaboos

MUSCAT - 11 January 2020: Oman's Diwan of Royal Court announced that Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman passed away on Friday evening.

The official Oman state news agency (ONA) mourned with great sorrow and deep sadness the longest serving Arab ruler.

"Qaboos established a comprehensive renaissance over the past 50 years since he assumed power in July 1970,"ONA quoted a statement issued by the royal court to mourn Qaboos.

"He led a prudent and triumphant march, abundant with bounty that prevailed all over Oman."

The Diwan of Royal Court declared a three-day period of official mourning for the public and private sectors.

Also, the court announced flying flags at half-mast during the coming 40 days
