CAIRO – 5 January 2020: A Twitter hashtag calling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “the enemy of Arabs” has topped the trending tags list during the past few hours.
The hashtag was initiated in protest to Erogan’s regional ambitions and hopes to recreate the Ottoman Empire on the remains of Arab countries.
“Filthy Erdogan is the reason behind the destruction of the Arab world, Erdogan destroys every country he could think of before invading it,” @elanoudharess said.
“Erdogan is an extreme terrorist who expands his terrorist cells by spending billions just for killing and destruction,” @nayefzakerr tweeted.
The Turkish parliament approved a bill that allows the Recep Erdogan government to send troops to Libya.
The troops would aid its ally, the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated government based in Tripoli fighting against the Libyan National Army led by Khalifa Haftar. The decision comes after a request for help by the Fayez Serraj government based in Tripoli, which is now labeled with “treason” by the Libyan Parliament.
“Erdogan’s top priority is to dismantle and destabilize the Arab world.. These are Erdogan’s thoughts,” @tareehhdahi said.
“Erdogan seeks to loot the Libyan oil, it was obvious as he kept sowing discord in Libya through his continuous support to terrorist groups there,” @yara_nayff said.
The Libyan parliament has voted unanimously to reject a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently inked between Sarraj and the Turkish government, which allows the latter to send troops to Libya.
During Saturday’s emergency session, the parliament also voted to refer all the signatories of both agreements signed by Erdogan and Sarraj on security as well as maritime jurisdictions, to the Libyan top prosecutor on charges of high treason.
The voting session came after the head of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar made a televised speech, and called on all Libyans to take up arms in response to prospective military intervention from Turkey.
A number of parliamentarians further demanded the withdrawal of Libyan citizenship from the signatories of the two agreements and called upon the international community to reject the MoUs.
Egypt has condemned the two MoUs as “null and void,” and warned against any Turkish military intervention in Libya, and its repercussions.
