Parl't urges Libyans to support Libya's national institutions against Turkish aggression

CAIRO – 5 January 2020: The Egyptian Parliament’s foreign affairs committee has launched an extraordinary meeting on Sunday to discuss Turkey's decision to dispatch military troops to Libya to support Fayez al-Sarraj’s Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated government.

The meeting, led by MP Karim Darwish, concluded that the committee will address the NATO and Mediterranean parliaments to hold Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accountable for his aggression and illegitimate moves in the region and their destabilizing effects.

"To achieve this, a sub-committee will be formed to follow up developments in Libya, coordinate positions with NATO, the Mediterranean and world parliaments, and form an international front against Turkey's military aggression," the committee said. "It is an interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign Arab country in flagrant violation of all international covenants and principles.”

The committee further said the Turkish escalation in Libya is deemed an invasion and a violation of UN resolutions on the sovereignty of member states.

Also, MP Amr Sedki has called upon the international community to assist the Libya Parliament as well as support the National Army of Libya to achieve safety and security inside Libya and face the Turkish threats of sending military troops in Libya.

Sedki also demanded the people of Libya to stick together and support Libya’s legitimate institutions, including the parliament and the national army in order to preserve and protect the country and its resources against the Turkish aggression.

Head of the Energy and Environment Committee of the House of Representatives, MP Talaat Al-Suwaidi, said the approval of the Turkish Parliament to send military forces to Libya is a null and void measure that violates all international laws and agreements.

He also stressed an absolute confidence in the ability of the legitimate institutions and the Libyan National Army led by Khalifa Haftar and the Libyan people to thwart all attempts by Erdogan and all his terrorist, ISIS and militants of Fayez al-Sarraj.

Al-Suwaidi expressed his deep disappointment at the silence of the international community, especially the United Nations and the Security Council, on Erdogan's terrorist policies, inside Syria and his current attempts to occupy Libya to control Libyan oil.

While deputy Alaa Wali has said Erdogan, “the Ottoman dictator” is committing the worst crimes, violations and massacres in front of the whole world while the international community and human rights groups did not move a muscle.

Wali stressed that what Turkey is doing in the region is a blatant aggression and a threat to security and stability with a complete and utter disregard to all international laws and legitimacy, threatening the national security of Egypt as well.

He further commended the efforts of the political leadership, the armed forces and the police forces, all led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in maintaining security and safety and countering terrorism in all its forms and types.

For his part, deputy Amin Masoud affirmed that a Qatari statement that rejected the Arab League statement against Turkey proves that the Qatari regime, represented in Tamim Bin Hamad, approves the Turkish aggression in the region, committed by Erdogan, “Sultan of blood and terrorism,” as described by Masoud.

He further added that what happened in both Iraq and Syria, and what is currently going on in Libya, is a far proof of the Turkish-Qatari schemes, stressing that Tamim provides Erdogan with billions of dollars to fund terrorist groups and provide them with the necessary equipment and weapons.

Deputy Ismail Nasr El-Din has also considered the option of boycotting Turkish products, as a reply to the blatant transgressions of the Turkish government in the region, and its attempts to plunder the wealth of the Middle East, spread chaos and destabilize the region.

“This decision will have an impact on the Turkish economy, which has been suffering in recent years after Turkish President Erdogan caused a significant deterioration in the Turkish economy, which has affected the livelihood of citizens.

He pointed out that an agreement signed between Egypt and Turkey allows Turkish products to enter the country without paying any customs, while on the other hand, the Turkish state keeps harming the interests of Egypt and seeks to destabilize its security through meddling in the region.
