‘Live Green’ activities reach Egypt’s Delta

CAIRO - 4 January 2020: Within the framework of the national initiative “Live Green '' to disseminate environmental awareness across the country, the Ministry of Environment conducted a series of activities in rural areas to teach people how to protect the natural resources.

In Delta’s Sharqia governorate, 61.95 km away from Cairo, a number of the ministry employees conducted awareness activities for the farmers and other civilians to spread the positiveness of environmental sustainability, said the ministry in a statement on Saturday.

In the same governorate, a total of 4,000 tons of wastes were removed, the statement added.

Head of the environmental tourist guides launched a volunteering campaign in sharm el Sheikh’s Ras Muhammad National Park to protect the wild life and the natural rsources. The campaign was launched in cooperation with a number of youths and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the tourism sector.

The volunteers collected tons of solid waste and plastic bags that were moved by strong winds to the park, the ministry announced in another statement on Friday. The large amount of waste was transferred to a landfill site in the governorate.

“Live Green” initiative was launched by Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi the World Youth Forum in Sharm el Sheikh on December 12, 2019.



The initiative focuses on the youth’s role in protecting their environment, the minister said in her speech at the Forum, adding that the government targets a 50-percent decrease of the solid particle pollution rate by 2030.
