UNAMI denies evacuating its employees from Green Zone in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Dec 31 (MENA) - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) denied evacuating its staff from the Green Zone, a heavily fortified zone in the center of Baghdad.

Previously, news circulated that the UNAMI evacuated its employees from the place which houses government buildings and foreign embassies, on the back of violent protests and an attack of the US embassy compound by supporters of Iran-backed Iraqi Shiite militias angry over US airstrikes against their bases which left at least 25 fighters killed and dozens injured on Sunday, the National Iraqi News Agency said.
