FM affirms Egypt's steadfast stance towards Palestinian issue

CAIRO - 7 December 2019: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed on Friday Egypt’s steadfast stance towards establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Shoukry remarks came during his meeting with Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, according to a statement released by the foreign spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.

The statement reported that the two sides exchanged views on regional issues of common concern, as the Vatican Foreign Minister was keen to listen to the Egyptian assessment on developments in the situation in Libya, Syria and the African Sahel region.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s keenness to continue consultation and coordination between Cairo and the Vatican regarding issues of pivotal and important issues for both parties, whether at the bilateral or regional level.

The foreign minister also expressed Egypt's pride in relations with the Vatican and appreciation of positive development witnessed in the various issues of common interest.

The minister also reviewed efforts exerted by Cairo to promote the values of citizenship and freedom of religion, which was appreciated by the Vatican top diplomat.
