CAIRO – 28 November 2019: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in a video published on Tuesday, said the upcoming Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development would support central goals of the African Union by seeking solutions for problems in the continent.

Shoukry said that the forum, which is set to be held on December 11-12th in Upper Egypt’s Aswan governorate, would provide a platform to tackle political and developmental aspects that concerns the African continent.

The forum is a regional and continental platform that will bring together political leaders, peace makers, and development partners, with the aim of creating a sustainable link between peace and development.

“The Aswan Forum supports the central goals of the African Union by its concentration on the principle of “African Solutions to African Problems” and provides a forum for addressing both the political aspects of interests to the African continent and also the developmental aspects,” Shoukry said.

“The championship of His Excellence, President El-Sisi to the issues of reconstruction, post-conflict, is an important aspect that will be addressed.”

“The forum comes as one additional event that highlights the importance of inter-African connectivity at all levels, providing an opportunity for both officials and eminent personalities to address the major issues of concern to the African continent and the African people.”

“Egypt will follow up on the outcomes of the Aswan Forum by first of all developing, at the end of the forum, a roadmap of the ideas,” Shoukry said, adding that the president will also “provide his colleagues during the next summit a review of those conclusions and thereby it will become integrated into the agenda of the African Union.”

“Definitely this is not a one-time event,” he said, noting that the event would be organized on a yearly basis, and would become a “fixture on the African agenda that will, I’m sure, have a very pertinent effect in terms of deliberating and reaching African solutions to African problems.”
