CAIRO - 27 November 2019: Egypt's Ambassador to Italy and Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Food Program Hisham Badr said the board members and senior African officials praised the great role played by Egypt preparing important strategic plans for WFP.
Badr explained that the executive board has adopted a number of important policies and programs to strengthen the work of the World Food Program in the coming period, most notably the strategy of strengthening the partnership with the private sector, which aims to get money to cover the growing needs of the hungry, refugees and malnourished people due to humanitarian crises, conflicts and natural disasters.
He also explained that the council approved a number of strategic plans for the program in Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, Djibouti, Eswatini and Angola for the period 2020-2024 with the participation of senior African officials.
The African officials include the deputy prime minister of Ethiopia, the minister of social affairs of Djibouti, the minister of agriculture of Mali, the minister of planning and community development and the deputy minister of planning and economic development of Sierra Leone.
The African officials expressed appreciation for the distinguished relations between Egypt and the African continent.
They commended the great efforts exerted by Egypt during the country's presidency of the African Union to enhance security and stability, and promote comprehensive development and African economic integration through the African continental Free Trade Agreement.
It is worth mentioning that the executive board of the program has adopted a number of strategic plans in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon to support people who are undernourished. This is in addition to supporting efforts to host Syrian refugees in a number of neighboring countries.
