CAIRO – 22 November 2019: The National Council for Women organized an event dubbed "Nile Boats" as part of international efforts to express condemnation of violence against women and to work to eliminate the phenomenon.

The event comes in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt and the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo.

During the event, each boat carried a different message to raise awareness of all forms of violence against women and girls. The boats started its cruise near the Embassy of Sweden and headed towards Corniche Al-Maadi.

The messages including encouraging community to educate girls as it socially protects them, and calling FGM crime that is punishable by law.

The event was attended by Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women, Randa Aboul-Hosn, resident representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt, and the Sweden ambassador in Cairo.
