CAIRO – 20 November 2019: Asyut University announced a precision transplant surgery of the left hand of a man was carried out successfully after he had his hand amputated in a car accident.
The university’s hospital received Ahmed S., 23 years old, who had his left hand amputated.He was referred to the microscopic surgery unit, where he underwent an urgent surgery that lasted for 5 consecutive hours to save his hand.
Tareq el-Gamal, the president of Asyut University and the chairman of Asyut University Hospitals, said"Doctors were keen to achieve the maximum possible success of the transplant operation, and to re-connect the hand back to the arm, while maintaining its motion and sensation."
Ahmed is currently in good health; he has stayed in the intensive care for two weeks, and now he is followed up by specialized doctors for rehabilitation.
