OHCHR adopts 372 recommendation in Egypt’s report

CAIRO – 15 November 2019: The United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) in Geneva adopted on Thursday, 15 November, nearly 372 recommendations on the Universal Periodic Review session on Egypt.

These adopted recommendations represented about five key themes.

Egypt's official delegation did not express any observations or objections to any of the recommendations received. The official delegation also affirmed that they will be studying the received recommendations carefully and that the government will announce its official replay by the end of February.

CAIRO - 13 November 2019: Head of Egypt's delegation Omar Marwan to its 3rd Universal Periodic Review session gave a speech on Wednesday regarding Egypt's record of human rights in light of its response to previous session's recommendations and obligations, at the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council (UNHCR).

Egypt issued its report on November 13, as among 163 countries only 39 have criticized the government for practices related to human rights, and other 97 countries praises Egypt’s efforts and demanded it to do more efforts to improve its human rights record.

On November 14, Mohamed Fayek, head of the National Council for Human Rights, said most of the countries' comments and reports on Egypt's human rights situation and report were generally fair and not hostile.

Concerning the remarks of some countries on the human rights situation in Egypt, Fayek said that some of the comments were positive. Fayek, in this regard, praised the efforts of the government, represented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Omar Marwan, in preparing Egypt's UPR report.

Many of the comments indicated the government's positive response to many of the recommendations and resolutions of the last periodic review, Fayek said, adding that, on the other hand, comments of some of the European countries on the human rights situation in Egypt were not positive.
