Sisi, Abu Dhabi CP talk counter-terrorism, navigation freedom

CAIRO – 15 November 2019: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday concluded his two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed and discussed bilateral relations.

The two sides hailed the special level of cooperation between Egypt and the UAE, and discussed counter-terrorism efforts, a mutual statement read. They also affirmed the need to secure freedom of navigation and reach political solution to the crises in the region.

They discussed ways to enhance bilateral relation through intensifying talks and coordination between the two countries on the issues of common concern. They also affirmed the importance of exploring the chances between the two countries to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries.

Sisi and Mohamed bin Zayed also discussed economic relations and praised the level of economic progress achieved between the two countries, as Egypt is considered the UAE's largest trade partner in Africa.

The volume of trade exchange in 2018 reached $5.5 billion. They called for enhancing economic cooperation.

They also praised the Riyadh agreement between the Yemeni government and the Southern Traditional Council, to facilitate a political settlement in the Arab country.

They also highlighted the importance of countering terrorism in Libya due to the danger of the spread of armed terrorist organizations in the country.

In this regard, the two sides highlighted Egypt's role in combating terrorism and reiterated the commitment to cooperate in combating terrorism and extremism.

They also affirmed UAE's sovereignty over the three UAE Islands of The Tunbs and Abu Musa held by Iran, affirming the need to resolve the issue in a peaceful manner through negotiations or the International Court of Justice.

The two Arab leaders also discussed the Palestinian cause and affirmed the rights of Palestinian people in establishing their independent with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the 1967 borders.
