CAIRO- May 15 2017: A range of regional and international issues were discussed by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Mike Pompeo, during their meeting in Cairo, Thursday.
Presidency spokesperson, ambassador Alaa Youssef said in statements that the discussions presented by Egyptian General Intelligence, Khaled Fawzi and American National Security Advisor deputy Rick Waddell included confronting terrorism in the region and putting one strategic plan to face it and all the countries that provide it a financial and political cover.
Other regional cases were discussed during the meeting including the Qatari-Gulf dispute, and wars in Libya and Syria.
During their meeting, Sisi emphasized the Egyptian-American relations, and described it as “longstanding, diverse and strategic.”
From his side, Pompeo praised the strategic relations between the two countries, saying that US is keen on enhancing them on all levels. He also noted Egypt's role as a “cornerstone for stability, security and peace in the Middle East”.
Sisi came back to Cairo on Tuesday after participating in the summit organized by the German presidency of the G20 for the partnership with Africa, under the title "G20 Africa Partnership - Investing in a Common Future."
During the visit he discussed confronting terrorism and the Qatari-Gulf dispute with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German Foreign Minister Sigmar Hartmut Gabriel.
