Thousands of residents gather in Major Ahmed Fekry's funeral on Saturday, 11 November 2019 in Upper Egypt's Qena - Egypt Today

CAIRO – 2 November 2019: Qous city in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Qena has witnessed an exchange of fire between police forces and outlaws, leaving the head of the investigative department in the city killed along with two criminals, and three forces members injured.

On Saturday, a funeral launched from Sedi Abdel Rahman el-Qenany Mosque for the killed Major Ahmed Fekry. The funeral was attended by the head of Qena Security Directorate Magdy el-Qady, and a number of executive leaders in the governorate.

Once the body of the major left the mosque, a state of sadness overshadowed the residents’ gathering, who came to Fekry’s farewell. Some of the reiterated that the “martyr” had a good reputation and exerted effort to purge the city of criminal elements.

The two criminal elements had two machinery guns in possession, and were on a motor bike, when they launched fire shots at the police forces, according to investigations on the incident.

Over the past four years, the Egyptian police has succeeded in implementing 34,135,033 judicial verdicts, including 265,062 felonies. The Interior Ministry’s efforts over the aforementioned period further managed to arrest thousands of fugitives who escaped during the state of lawlessness that followed the 2011 mass protests, including 1,202 who received capital punishment, 36,850 received life sentence in prison and 1,890 who received prison terms.
