Egypt's FM talks Turkish assault with Lithuanian counterpart

CAIRO - 16 October 2019: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Lithuanian counterpart, and reiterated Egypt's rejection of the Turkish aggression in northern Syria, referring to its negative repercussions on the political settlement and the humanitarian situation in Syria, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, during the meeting on Wednesday in Lithuania's capital of Vilnius, expressed his country's appreciation to the relations with Egypt, affirming keenness to strengthen these ties in various fields to meet the aspiration of the peoples of the two countries.

The two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Shoukry stressed the importance of developing cooperation in various fields, especially in light of the positive results of the Lithuanian foreign minister's visit to Cairo last January, and his participation in the first Arab-European summit in South Sinai's Sharm el-Sheikh last February.

The Egyptian foreign minister expressed the keenness to enhance the bilateral relations at all levels, including continuing to exchange high-level visits and maintaining periodic political consultations between the two countries, as well as continuing coordination and consultation on all issues of common concern within regional and international forums.

Shoukry also expressed Egypt's appreciation for the Lithuanian side's understanding of the nature of the challenges facing the Egyptian state, especially with regard to combating terrorism and illegal immigration, and the burden of implementing important economic reforms.

The meeting touched on ways of boosting economic cooperation between the two countries. Shoukry has invited the Lithuanian side to take part in the huge national projects being implemented in Egypt, including the Suez Canal Axis, and to take advantage from the investment opportunities provided by the Egyptian market.

The two ministers also discussed opportunities for cooperation in many other fields, especially information technology, cybersecurity, and financial and banking services, as well as renewable energy, higher education, and tourism.
