CAIRO – 13 June 2017: Al-Azhar strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a security patrol in Al-Qatif governorate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday, killing one policeman and injuring two security officers.

In a statement released Tuesday, Al-Azhar denounced this kind of terrorist acts, stressing on the importance to coordinate counterterrorism efforts.

The statement offered condolences to the people and government of Saudi Arabia.

A Saudi officer was killed and two soldiers injured in Qatif late Sunday night, following the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) thrown at the patrol car, according to a spokesman of the Saudi Interior Ministry.

Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the assailants.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also condemned the attack on Monday, assuring Egypt’s support for the measures taken by the Kingdom to thwart the plans of terrorist organizations and secure the safety of its citizen.

“Egypt stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and its people against terrorism and extremism, which threaten its security and stability,” the statement read.
