CAIRO – 13 June 2017: German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated her country’s support of Egypt’s economic reform path during her meeting with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in Berlin on Monday. She also spoke about German companies’ efforts to increase their activities in Egypt, spokesperson of presidency, Alaa Yousef stated Monday.

Germany hosts the G20 summit for African countries, which discusses sustainable development in the continent.

The German chancellor emphasized Egypt’s role in Middle East, expressing her appreciation for its efforts in counter-terrorism and restoring stability by backing political dialogue in the region.

She affirmed Berlin’s readiness to boost cooperation with Egypt in counter-terrorism and combating illegal immigration.

From his side, Sisi praised Germany’s role in boosting partnership with Africa and supporting it to push development efforts.

Sisi highlighted the economic reforms undertaken by Egypt, which would attract foreign investments in the country, besides easing the effects of the reforms on citizens and expanding social protection programs.

The meeting addressed regional issues, including the ongoing Qatari embargo by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, as well as Libya and Syria. According to the statement Sisi spoke about the need to restore the unity of those countries.

The president said that international efforts to confront countries that support and shelter terrorism should be intensified.
