CAIRO - 27 September 2019: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri asserted that any political solution to the Libyan crisis must be home grown and approved by the elected representatives of the Libyan people.
His remarks came during a ministerial meeting on the Libyan situation that was held on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York city, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement to the press.
The meeting tackled the current conditions in Libya, with Shoukri expounding the fixed Egyptian stand regarding its war-hit neighboring country, and calling for the implementation of a 2017 UN-endorsed initiative on Libya that addresses all elements of its problem, the spokesman also said.
He added that Shoukri welcomed the responsible stand of commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar and his readiness for engaging in a political dialogue to reach an acceptable settlement of the crisis, urging all other parties to show the same high sense of responsibility and place national interests above everything else to reach a solution that preserves the Libyan national unity and territorial integrity and to work on restoring the country’s national institutions and supporting the national army in its efforts to fight against terrorism and restore national security and stability and end the chaos and unrest created by armed militants.
