CAIRO – 23 September 2019: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has affirmed Egypt's keenness on the restoration of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state, in accordance with the international accords.
Sisi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said on Monday, on the sidelines of the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
For his part, Abbas has expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts and historic unchangeable stance towards the Palestinian cause, highlighting the depth of relations between the peoples of the two countries.
Abbas also praised the Egyptian efforts to achieve reconciliation between Palestinian factions, affirming willingness to continue coordination and with Egypt on various issues of mutual concern, Radi said.
The presidents also discussed the developments of a number of regional and Arab issues.
Sisi arrived in New York on Saturday morning to participate in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 74) that is set to kick off on Tuesday.
President Sisi is scheduled to give a speech before the UNGA on Wednesday, where he will touch Egypt’s vision, achievements and stances towards regional and international situations that are discussed, especially in terms of global peace and security, Radi said earlier.
Sisi’s speech will also international efforts to counter terrorism and extremist thoughts, besides economic, social and development fields and Africans affairs in his capacity as the chairman of the African Union.
He is also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA meetings to exchange views on enhancing relations in different fields.
Sisi will also participate in a number of high-level conferences that are set to be held during the 74 session of the UNGA.
Regarding Egyptian-US relations, President Sisi’s visit to New York will witness intensive activities, where he is set to meet with influential U.S. figures, leaders of global American companies, and major economic institutions that are seeking to increase the size of its investments in Egypt, in addition to localize its work in the country amid attractive investment environment and the comprehensive development operation.
