CAIRO – 20 September 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived in New York city, marking his sixth participation in the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Sisi has participated in UN General Assembly meetings five times before since 2014 until 2018, as this round will mark his sixth participation.
Hours before President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrival to New York, Egyptian expats announced preparing for several events welcoming Sisi in New York.
In statements to Egypt Today; Egyptian and Arab expats affirmed that they have been preparing for several events that will be launched by the arrival of President Sisi.
According to Reuters Sisi is scheduled to meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump on the sideline on the meetings, as he will be delivering a speech on September 25.
The UN General Assembly meeting will kick off on Monday 23 and will continue until September 30.
Several files will be tackled during the meetings. According to the announced agenda the meetings will be tackling health, sustainable development and removal of chemical weapons.
On Thursday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry departed to New York to prepare for the participation of President Sisi in UNGA high level meetings.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez, President Sisi will be among the first heads of state to address the high-level public debates.
The Egyptian participation in the UNGA session will reflect the country's important role in the UN bodies along with its regional role in all relevant issues.
During his visit to the U.S., President Sisi is expected to hold a number of meetings with his counterparts and UN officials to discuss means of developing cooperation and tackle issues of common interest.
