Ismailia governor resigns abruptly, health problems cited as reason

CAIRO – 9 September 2019: Ismailia Governor Hamdy Othman has resigned late on Sunday, September 8, his office manager said, adding in an interview with Egypt Today that the governor cited health problems as the reason behind his resignation.

The governor gathered all his belongings and left Ismailia for Cairo, the office manager said, denying any intentions for the governor to retract his resignation.

No official statements have been issued from Ismailia authorities so far concerning Othman's resignation. Claims of a moral scandal behind the governor's resignation have not been confirmed.
