CAIRO - 5 September 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Sept. 5 Walid Jumblatt, leader of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate (GIS), Abbas Kamel.
For his part, Jumblatt affirmed keenness to strengthen the historic relations between the two brotherly countries. He also affirmed his country's appreciation for the Egyptian efforts to back Lebanon in all fields.
President Sisi affirmed Egypt's hope for the achievement of permanent security and stability in Lebanon, wishing that Lebanon meets its national interests and avoids the dangers of conflicts in the region.
The president also hailed Jumblatt's role to preserve stability and balance in Lebanon.
Furthermore, the meeting tackled means of enriching bilateral cooperation frameworks, including the possibility of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in a number of developmental areas. The two sides stressed the importance of enhancing investment and trade exchange between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides touched upon the situation in Syria and its regional impact, and the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, where they agreed on the importance of concerted efforts to resolve the current stalemate in the peace process and settle the Palestinian issue in a way that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and guarantees their rights.
In this regard, Sisi affirmed the Egyptian stance that supports the right of the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with the relevant international principles and references.
