CAIRO – 29 August 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni agreed to enhance the development of the Nile Basin countries to achieve common interests, said presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Thursday.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Museveni on Aug. 29 on the sidelines of the 2019 Tokyo International Conference on Africa's Development (TICAD).

Both leaders tackled the latest developments in the African continent, counter-terrorism efforts, trade issues, and infrastructure development, Radi added.

President Museveni praised Egyptian companies’ role in developing Uganda, expressing appreciation for Egypt's technical support to Ugandans over the past years, Radi said.

In May 2018, the two presidents signed three memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in the fields of electricity, agriculture, and the construction and management of industrial zones during Museveni’s two-day visit to Cairo.

In June 2017, Sisi visited Uganda to participate in the Nile Basin Summit; several talks were held between Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart on the sidelines of the summit.

Sisi’s first presidential visit to Uganda was in December 2016, where the two leaders praised the long, historical relations between the two countries and affirmed that efforts will be exerted to enhance the two countries’ relations and cooperation.
