Supreme Council for Media Regulations
CAIRO – 20 August 2019: The Supreme Council for Media Regulation set a number of rules to regulate the work of religious, medical, sports and talk shows to establish media responsibility, moral values and a developmental discourse that does not incite discrimination, violence and hatred.
The most prominent regulations of religious programs:
1- Taking into account that the program provider is aware of religious issues and is certified to recite the Quran and speak about the Prophet's biography.
2- The guests should be well-known religious scholars or university professors.
3- In case of Issuing Fatwas, guests should be enlisted in and approved by Al-Azhar, Dar Al-Ifta and the Ministry of Awqaf.
4- Social networking sites should not be a source of opinion or Ifta except for the sites and observatories of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dar Al-Ifta, the Ministry of Awqaf and Al-Azhar University.
The most prominent rules for sports programs included:
1- Program staff should be neutral and impartial.
2- Do not politicize the content and link it to the conditions of the Egyptian street.
3-Respecting sports symbols and not provoking the public.
The most prominent rules of medical program included:
1-Not accepting programs of the leasing time system or joint productions that are not submitted to the Supreme Council of Information.
2- Not announcing hospitals or treatment centers without making sure they are registered at the Ministry of Health and allowed to work.
3- Not advertising drugs without the approval of the Department of Pharmacy, Ministry of Health.
The most prominent rules of talk shows included:
1-The presenter and editor of the program should be members of their syndicate.
2-The editor-in-chief shall be responsible for the broadcast.
3-The program is committed to reference and to checking sources of information broadcast.
4- The program should coordinate with the sources of the State in relation to news.
5-The presenter should mention in his program the target age group.
6-The duration of the program should not exceed 90 minutes and the ad intervals should not exceed 3 intervals with periods ranging from 5 to 8 minutes.
