FILE: Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhi
RABAT, Aug 19 (MENA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi met on Monday with players of the Egyptian mission taking part in the 12th African Games, which started Monday in Morocco and runs until August 31 with the participation of 52 states.
Egypt takes part in the championship with 297 players who will perform in 24 different sports, including 22 Olympic games.
Egypt takes steady steps towards reaching the top of the African and international sports, minister Sobhy said, adding that Egyptian teams have been at the top of the African Games ranking since the launch of the games.
He thanked all Egyptian players and officials responsible for the national mission and urged them to continue efforts meant to reflect a positive image about the country.
Sobhy met with the Moroccan and Algerian ministers of sports alongside a number of African sports officials. He briefed them on the role of the state to develop sports across Africa.
The minister expressed eagerness for further cooperation between Egypt and Arab countries in the sports sphere.
The Egyptian athletes have snatched eight medals so far in the African Games, including four golds and four bronzes.
All the medals were collected in Judo competitions.
