CAIRO - 15 August 2019: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed deep condolences and sincere sympathy to the Sudanese people as floods recently hit a number of areas in Sudan, causing the death and injury of a number of citizens.
The statement also wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Rains have been pouring in the last few days, flooding hundreds of homes in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, AFP reported.
Sudan News Agency (SUNA) said on Tuesday that the flash floods have claimed seven lives and injured two people.
Egypt has politically supported Sudan, recently after former President Omar al-Bashir was overthrown by angry protests.
Sudan’s Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) and Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) ended their meetings on Monday in the Egyptian capital of Cairo after two days of deliberations over the recent political developments in Sudan.
An agreement has been reached between the two political powers on the dispute points of the recently brokered agreement between Sudan’s military ruling council and FFC.
The SRF demanded to have the points agreed during Cairo’s meetings included in the agreement brokered with Sudan’s ruling military council before signing the constitutional declaration document on August 17.
Egypt welcomed the agreement between the opposition FFC and the military council, hailing the agreement as a valuable step to restore stability in Sudan.
Sudan’s FFC and SRF delegations arrived in Egypt on Friday and Saturday to discuss the political developments. The head of SRF, Malik Agar, was keen to praise the Egyptian role in paving the way for a political agreement between FFC and SRF.
