Sudan’s FFC delegation arrives in Egypt to discuss political developments

CAIRO – 11 August 2019: A Sudanese Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) delegation has arrived in Egypt on Saturday to discuss the current political developments in neighboring Sudan.

The delegation that represents the main opposition power in Sudan included several leaders such as Omar al Dakir, Ali Reih Sanhouri, Madani Abbas, Babikr Faisal, Wagdy Saleh, and Kamal Ismail.

The group was preceded by another political delegation and a part of the FFC alliance, Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) delegation that arrived in Egypt on Friday. The SRF delegation includes main opposition leaders Minni Arkou Minnawi, Jibril Ibrahim, Malik Agar, Yasir Arman, and El Hadi Idris, according to Egyptian officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to brief the media.

The SRF is one of the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) alliance, which was calling for the end of ousted President Omar al-Bashir’s regime.

Sudan's military rulers and the FFC coalition reached an agreement paving the way for a new transitional government on August 3, under the supervision of the African Union.

The agreement, which outlines the shape of the transitional government, was brokered by the African Union and neighboring Ethiopia in talks that were sometimes suspended because of street violence in Khartoum and other cities.

In a region already riven by conflict, Sudan has been in a state of turmoil since the army ousted Bashir in April, with dozens of demonstrators killed during mass protests.

The main opposition coalition, the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), welcomed the agreement as a "first step with more to follow" and pledged to complete the journey to "freedom, peace, and justice" in Sudan.

Sudan has witnessed a country-wide anti-government protest that ended with the ouster of President Omar al Bashir in April.
