CAIRO – 11 June 2017: Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat has ordered to provide medical wheelchairs in all railway stations in the country, to serve the elderly and disabled passengers.

The first phase includes Ramses stations in Cairo and Alexandria, Sidi Gaber Railway Station in Giza, as well as Damietta and Tanta stations, Chairman of the Egyptian Railway for Integrated Services, Insurance and Cleanliness, Refaat Hatata stated Sunday.

Workers at the Egyptian railway company will be responsible for escorting the passengers on wheelchairs in the stations.

It has been decided to start with the main stations, Hatata said, and we will then expand to the secondary ones. He added that by 2018, the company and the railways authority will have provided wheelchairs and golf carts in the main stations.

Hatata announced early May the deployment of golf carts at Ramses Railway Station to ease transporting disabled and senior citizens. Three golf carts were purchased within the first stage of the project.
