CAIRO - 15 July 2019: Inspectors of the Mortgage Financial Fund and citizens filed 770 complaints against recipients of social housing units across the country for breaching the rules ensuring eligibility to acquire a free fully-furnished apartment.
The fund’s Executive Director Maye Abdel Hamid gave the following breakdown:

16 breaches in Sharqiya
4 in Ismailiyah
14 in Asyut
49 Daqahliyah
29 in BeniSuef
5 in Kafr El Sheikh
10 in Menya
45 in the New Valley
60 in Cairo
61 in Port Said
27 in Aswan
17 in Giza’s Hadyek October
25 in Alexandria’s Borg Al Aarb
84 in Cairo’s Badr City
9 in New BeniSuef
67 in Cairo’s 10 of Ramadan City
123 in New Asyut City
1 in New Menya City
Abdel Hamid said that the complaints are being verified before any measures are taken. The types of breaches indicated in the law are resale, rent, change of the purpose of the unit from residential to commercial, and not residing in the unit. Citizens filed 444 complaints while inspectors reported 326 breaches.
The fund has launched a hotline and a website that can be used by citizens to report breaches. The number of inspectors working for the institution is 186.
