CAIRO, July 2 (MENA) - Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam condemned on Tuesday Israel's opening of the so-called "road of pilgrims" tunnel which runs from the town of Silwan in the occupied city of Jerusalem towards Al Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Allam denounced all schemes carried out by the Israeli occupation forces to change the identity of Jerusalem and the mosque, Muslims' third holiest shrine.

He warned of the serious consequences that will result from the continued illegal Israeli excavations in the occupied Old City of Jerusalem.

The Mufti called on the international community and regional and international organizations including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to immediately intervene to halt the Israeli aggression against Muslim scared places and the serious escalations against Al Aqsa Mosque.

He stressed that these Israeli malpractices constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
