CAIRO - 18 June 2019: The Libyan National Parties Conference held in Cairo on June 17 -18 concluded on Tuesday issuing a closing statement asserting the determination to eradicate militias and achieve stability, and expressing no confidence in Fayez al-Sarraj and Ghassan Salama.

The following is the full statement:

The Libyan National Parties, including their political, social, and cultural segments, affirm their support to the stability of Libya and the integrity of its territory. The Libyan National Parties salute the [National Libyan] Armed Forces for heeding the repeated calls of the people for salvation from terrorism and militias that ruined the homeland and destroyed its properties. As a result, the homeland became a refuge for extremists, and a conflict zone. Such situation made room for abhorrent foreign intervention in Libyan internal affairs. In that context, the Libyan National Parties assert the following:

1) Gratitude to the Arab Republic of Egypt, its people and leadership for the political support they have been providing for the Libyan people in their struggle to defuse their country’s current crisis.

2) The unlimited support for the Libyan National Armed Forces in its efforts to combat terrorism, and militias in Trippoli. Moreover, the participants in this conference call upon the Libyan National Armed Forces to expedite the liberation of Tripoli and the full elimination of terrorism and crime that were imposed on Libyan over the past years. That is in addition to the empowerment of legitimate civil institutions to operate in a secure and stable environment. All that aims at establishing a civil, democratic, prosperous, and inclusive state.

3) The conference calls upon the residents of Tripoli and neighboring cities to advise their children, who are brainwashed and involved with militias, to give up their weapons so they would be part of the reconstruction of the homeland after clearing the capital [from all armed groups].

4) The conference affirms that Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salama lacks objectivity. His obvious bias in favor of precise entities has presented an obstacle in reaching a political settlement to the current crisis. A serious and objective person must be selected for that position.

5) The conference expresses its great discontent over the alliance of militias and Chairman of the so-called Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj, who is responsible for the deterioration of the situation in Libya.

6) The conference condemns the Qatari and Turkish support for militias in Tripoli. Both countries provide militias with cash and arms, and bring mercenaries and terrorists from Syria and Iraq to the Capital, Tripoli to fight the Libyan National Armed Forces.

7) The conference urges the international community to understand the situation in Libya and the Libyan people’s rejection of any foreign intervention aimed at imposing control on its willpower or political future.

8) The conference stipulates the necessity to lift the ban on arms supply to the Libyan National Armed Forces as that will accelerate the pace of terrorism and militias eradication.

9) The conference affirms that any calls for a ceasefire in light of the fact that arms are possessed by non-state actors are calls for the continuity of the crisis and the misery lived by the people for years. Any solution shall never be accepted unless militias give up their arms to the Libyan National Armed Forces and security agencies.

10) The total rejection of the proposal by Chairman of the so-called Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj as he opts for the continuity of the absence of state sovereignty that was dominant before launching the Dignity Flood operation.
