CAIRO – 13 June 2019: Cairo Criminal court published on Wednesday its consideration and merits on the life sentence given to Muslim Brotherhood member Hassan Malek and nine others on charges of harming the Egyptian economy.

The Emergency State Security Criminal Court ordered in January placing Hassan Malek, a businessman affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood group, and nine others on the terror list, and keeping them under the surveillance of the police for five years.

Malek, his son and five others were also sentenced to lifetime in jail in April on charges of harming the Egyptian national economy, while sentencing three others to 10 years in prison in the same case.

On the other hand, the court acquitted 14 other defendants in the case of charges, after they had been accused of joining the Muslim Brotherhood group and supplying it with funds.

Earlier, the Supreme State Security Prosecution had issued an arrest warrant against Malek and searched his house, where a number of publications showing plots to harm the national economy, attack police and army personnel and target the tourism industry were found.

The prosecutors had found a publication that included a list of US, UAE and Saudi companies working in Egypt, as well as a map of natural gas lines in the country with the aim to carry out terror attacks against these targets.
