CAIRO – 5 June 2019: Millions of Egyptians performed Eid al-Fitr prayer nationwide on Wednesday, celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan during which Muslims fasted from dawn to sunset.

The Ministry of Endowment has allocated a total of 5,863 areas for performing the prayer, the first Islamic ritual of the three-day festival. Some of the allocated praying areas were set in vicinity of some churches.

After the prayer, the Egyptians greet each other and give the children gifts of sweets and money; they usually eat desserts of Kahk (Eid cookies), and biscuits. Eid al-Fitr [The feast of breaking the fast] is a three-day vacation, and it comes after the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
