KHARTOUM, June 4 (MENA) - Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) announced on Tuesday the halt of negotiations with the main opposition coalition, the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces (DFCF), and called for holding elections within nine months, under international and regional supervision.

In a televised statement, Head of Sudan’s Military Council Lt. General Abdel Fattah al Burhan said that an interim government will be formed to run the country's affairs throughout the transitional period, during which the elections will be held within nine months.

"The political powers holding talks with the military council share the responsibility of prolonging negotiations, in an attempt to seize power," Burhan warned.

The army will never pose an obstruction to change, yet, the military council promises to hand over power to those picked by the people to represent them, the Lt. general asserted in his statement.

He urged the prosecution to open investigations into violence and deaths reported during the dispersal of a weeks-long sit-in on Monday, affirming that the military council will continue eliminating and holding all former regime symbols accountable for any illegal actions and crimes committed to harm national interests.
