Egypt follows up on identifying Ethiopian plane crash's victims: diplomat

CAIRO – 4 June 2019: Yasser Hashem, assistant foreign minister for consular affairs and expatriates, said that the Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa is following with the Ethiopian authorities the identification of the victims of the Ethiopian plane crash.

The team reportedly includes experts from Ethiopia, INTERPOL and foreign specialized companies.

The Ethiopian authorities said that personal belongings of the victims have been already collected, while procedures for the families to identify their victims are being finalized, Hashem said.

He alsoaffirmed that the Egyptian Embassy will continue to follow upclosely on all legal and technical aspects related to the incident.

The Ethiopian AirlinesBoeing 737 MAX jet was heading from Addis Ababa to Nairobi of Kenya, when crashed on March 10. All aboard, 157 people including six Egyptians, were killed. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Ethiopian investigators urged Boeing to review its flight control system and said pilots of Ethiopian Airlines had carried out proper procedures.

In March, the aircraft was globally grounded following the incident. Few months earlier, a Lion Air 737 Max crashed, killing 189 people.
